BASEMENTS & FOUNDATIONS

Moisture entering sub-grade structures is a significant factor in accelerated structural deterioration and reduced indoor air quality in New Zealand homes. Concrete is naturally porous, allowing unprotected below-ground walls and floor slabs to absorb moisture from the surrounding earth. If left unaddressed, this ongoing water infiltration can gradually weaken your home's foundation, potentially causing structural problems, concrete decay, and the corrosion of steel reinforcements.

Furthermore, damp basements can encourage mould and mildew growth, which may affect respiratory health and lead to uncomfortable living conditions. Sahara Waterproofing offers specialised foundation and basement waterproofing solutions designed to stop moisture intrusion, helping maintain your property's structural integrity.

Unlocking Valuable New Living Space

With property prices across New Zealand continuing to shift, maximising the usable square footage of your existing home footprint is a smart way to add significant value to your home.

A dry, properly waterproofed basement can be fully utilised as additional living space. By establishing a robust barrier against moisture and vapour, we help transform underutilised sub-ground areas into healthy, comfortable spaces, suitable for purposes such as:

  • Additional bedrooms or self-contained guest wings.

  • Quiet, insulated home offices away from the main house.

  • Media rooms, home gyms, or family recreational spaces.

Comprehensive Solutions for New Builds & Remedial Projects

As Licensed Building Practitioners (LBPs), we provide preventative systems for new foundations and address complex remedial issues in existing damp basements. Our team utilises specific industry systems, chosen based on site access points:

  • External Foundation Waterproofing: Applied to the exterior face of the foundation walls during the construction phase. We install heavy-duty sheet membranes and drainage planes from brands like Sika and Allco to stop water before it ever touches the concrete.

  • Negative-Side Interior Sealing: If your basement is already backfilled and leaking from the inside, excavating from the outside is often impossible. In these situations, we apply specialised interior sealing systems. We use epoxy coatings and crystalline waterproofing slurries from Ardex and Sika that penetrate deep into the concrete pores, blocking water ingress under pressure from the interior.

The Sahara Health & Structure Guarantee

We know that a dry home is a healthy home. Our basement and foundation systems strictly comply with New Zealand Building Code moisture control standards. Every project we undertake is executed by certified specialists and backed by our comprehensive 10-year workmanship guarantee.
